demoralised
Right then, I'm so pissed off with weight training, I'm just going to come out with it...
I'm 25 years old, I'm about 150lbs I have done one cycle already and I know I probably shouldn't have done that but anyway... I'm sick of being skinny! I hate it! muscle dysmorphia I hear you say, well spot on, I do suffer from this and have done in a big way. So then you say, solution - bodybuilding, seems simple enough but is it? I've read so many books, magazines, articles, websites on every aspect of bodybuilding and I've gained next to nothing, I've tried everything, different training programs, paid close attention to diet and resting, everything you can think of and I've looked at it! I know more than most people I know that weight train, take my brother for instance, he doesn't do all the reading I do, he just picked up some dumbells one day and just started growing! do you know how much that pissed me off? I thought I'd give steroids ago, and I know people go on about not using roids till you reach your natural limit blar blar blar, but I was desperate, I couldn't go on the way I was, wearing a t-shirt and a shirt on those hot days in the summer, keeping myself covered in stupidly hot conditions.. so onto the steroids I went, I did gain a load of strength but no muscle, what the hell was I doing wrong? I thought I'd at least gain some muscle on roids but no I didn't I just don't get it!? I'm not going to touch roids until I know what I'm doing wrong, and until I have gained a load of muscle naturaly, I know I must be doing something wrong, or is it just me? do I have a hormone deficiency? have you ever heard of anyone having the crapest genetics that they just can't gain any muscle what so ever?? I know you might say get yourself some proffesional help to get this muscle dysmorphia sorted out but the only cure I want is to be bigger! all I want is to be 28lbs heavier, is it really too much to ask?? I've always said that if I get to put on that 28lbs and I still feel the way I do now, I will go and seek help. so come on guys, anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong? these are the things I've looked at: 1) drop sets, super sets etc.. 2) training 3 times a week 3) training 4 times a week 4) training 5 times a week 5) diet, carbs, protein, fats, etc.. 6) sleeping 7) exercise form 8) different exercises 9) number of sets and excercises in each training session 10) length of training sessions 11) rest between sets I've tried everything... I forgot to mention I work out at home and a I hear you say 'join a gym, its the only way' well I can't join a gym until I have got a little bigger, this muscle dysmorphia is ruling my life and there isn't a chance I could join a gym just yet. and besides, my bro worked out at home and made some great gains, so I should be able to, shouldn't I? so what the hell is wrong with me? should I go and talk to the doctor and ask for some tests or something? I'm just so confused and pissed off BIGTIME and it doesn't help when my bro comes into the room flexing his muscles. I need help, so please help!! anyone?? what do you think of this? http://www.skinnyguy.net/index.html I'm so F***ing pissed off about all this, all the time, money and effort I've put in and all that for nothing BUT I'm so bloody determined to make this happen |

I will only address the problem of gaining weight, the rest of that stuff is over my head. To gain weight ,all you have to do is eat like the weight you want to be , i.e. if you want to be 200lbs. then eat 200cals x 20, that would be 4000 cals.if you want to be bigger you have to eat more. And remember to eat at least 1.5 grams of protein per lb. that you want to weight. If you are just doing your body weight at 20 cals. per lb. then all you are doing is maintaining your weight. Don't worry about your 6 pack disappearing while trying to gain weight cuz it will. To be LARGE you have to EAT LARGE. if you do a search of past posts by Luckysaint you will come across what he eats day, Most moral men can't eat that much , but that is what it takes to be 295lbs. of twisted steel. Bro I wish you the best and hope this helps. J.R.

well the thing is, like I said before I ate and ate and ate, I did originally weigh about 115lbs, and the weight I've gained since then is ALL fat, my BF% is about 16/20% at about 145lbs, I'm 5"8 incase you were wondering.
I was eating about 150/200 grams of protein a day, my brother doesn't even take that much protein, he just eats 4 meals a day, doesn't really drink milk and gets his proptein from the meals his mother makes him... I just don't know what to do or where to go from here and its pissing me offf. thanks tat for your reply, appreciated ![]() |

We can help you Bro, what is your current diet look like? What ever it is it's not enough (period)? I ask this question all the time to those that wish to put on Mass, and tattoo hit on some very valid points in his post. Drugs will help in getting you to where you need to be, but your diet has to be up to par! Diet: 150#'s x 22 = 3300 calories per day to gain weight. 3300 divided by 8 meals = 412 calories per meal 225g (protein) x 4 = 900 calories 450g (carbs) x 4 = 1800 calories 75g (fat) x 9 = 675 calories 3375 Total calories Training: 4 Days per week, 9 sets per Body part (3 different exercises) 1 warm up & 2 heavy sets on ea. exercise..I mean Heavy!!! Mon: Chest/Shoulders/Cardio (Yes Cardio) for 15min after Training Tuesday: Back/Calves Wed: Off Thurs: Biceps/Triceps/Cardio for 15 min. only after training Fri: Legs/Hams/Calves Sat-Sun: Off Consistancy is going to be key here untill your body adapts to the Diet. I mean 7 days per week eating your ass off, no excuses! You sound determined to beat this thing, but if it where Muscle Dismorphia (Not) you would not of gained the weight you did from 115#'s to 150#'s so delete that, it's all in your head! Good Luck Luckysaint

Listen to lucky bro, he knows his shit...And I know how your feeling. It was really hard for me to gain weight. I trained for years and got just a few pounds... Now I have gained more weight in a shorter amount of time just in the past 8 months of being a member on this board then I did the 3 years before that.
And it was all because of a change in my eating habits. You need alot of protein. Alot of good calories. And alot of water. You could lift for years and not gain a thing without the right diet. Its like trying to drive a car that has no gas.... Don't matter how long you sit in that drivers seat and go through the motions, she ain't movin without any fuel in the tank....Its that simple bro.... So listen to lucky, He's the man.... Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks guys for the replys, but I have tried everything you have said, like I said before, I have paid very close attention to diet and all I gained was fat, I was eating more than the 3300 calories that you suggested lucky and didn't gain an ounce of muscle.
I've tried absolutley every routine there is to try, eaten big amounts of carbs, protein and even fats. I'm thinking about going to the doctirs, i've been trying to gain weight for more than 5 years and still nothing.. and lucky, I do have muscle dysmorphia, ever since I was 14 ish, I always kept myself covered up, never wore a T-shirt anywhere, I did a questionaire once about this and I got 34 out of 40, 40 being you have muscle dysmorphia and suffer from this in a big way, seek professional help blar blar blar... I might try what you have said and see what happens, but I'm pretty sure waht will happen... thanks for your time guys, does anyone think I might have some sort of condition that stope me from gauining muscle? I've put so much, time, effort and money into all this for nothing. |

There may be a medical condition that is keeping your body from gaining weight. But other then a fast metabolism, I don't know what it could be. So going to the doctor might be a good idea.
Everyone I know that has got serious with a high protein diet and a good hard core work out routine has gained weight. A shit load of calories is good but only if their the right kind of calories. And straight up bro, I'm not trying to be a dick but. Skinny or not. GO TO A GYM... Unless you have a full gym in your house, which most people don't. You need a gym for results. No one in the gym gives a fuck about how big you are. If they are concerned with size, I bet money it's their size that they are concerned with, not yours. You want results, then buck up and hit it hard. You say you've done the right diet... You say you've done all the routines. The one thing you have not tried is doing the right diet and the right routine in a real gym, with all the right equipment... Give it a shot bro. Its the only thing you have'nt tried... I bet ya you see results within a month of getting a membership and getting serious. Good luck man... ![]()

Sparks, that was quite a tare you went off on there!!! I couldn't help but to connect with you and really want to give you my advice as well. You see about a 2 years ago I was a chub was. 215lbs at a height of 5'9" and I was disgusted with myself entirely. I was lazy, sedentary and ate any junk I so pleased. Then I decided to change and dieted down and ran my ass off and worked the abs. I hardly touched weights though and got down to less then 140 lbs. Yeah, that's more than a bit too light. Then I became disgusted with myself once again for being a skinny-ass punk. So what did I do this time? I got over my fear of putting on a few extra pounds, and like the other guys said, ate 6-7 times a day of good, clean foods. I supplemented with whey, protein and creatine. I ate clean sourced carbs, lean meats and healthy fats at every meal making sure I was getting about 150-225 grams of protein a day. You need decent sleep at night and enough water to drink after you eat and before, during and after your workouts. A simple foundation? Of course but you have to apply all of this and be consistent. Get a solid strength training program with a partner to assist with the intense, heavy lifting you must do every other day. Your gifted brother perhaps can lend you a hand. I said this a few times before in other posts but the best way to muscle up is to work large muscle groups simutaneously. Compound lifts such as squats, bench presses, barbell/dumbell rows, deadlifts, etc... will slap on muscle like you would not believe. How much do I weigh now at a low body fat %? When I found and applied a solid eating and workout program I put on 40 lbs and now weigh 180lbs. It only took me about 6 months to do that. Oh that was all natural by the way. I thought I was a hardgainer for the longest time but I don't believe they exist unless there is some kind of physical, medical condition preventing muscle gain. One more thing. Read a book called The Testosterone Advantage Plan. It helped me get over the same thing you are going through. Best of luck and stay on board here.

Oh and to touch up on the gym a little bit I suggest, if you have the money to buy a membership. Look around and research and dammit all, go! Its not as expensive as people think it is. This way you have access to heavier weights and spotters and if you need so help on your own there are machines to guide you. Worrying about people looking at you is something you shouldn't fear. If anything even the biggest hulk there is too busy working on and worrying about his own body. Every soul in there knows that you and everyone else is there to improve themselves so bravo to you and them.
