Scamming Teens
Found this on another board
You've all been tricked. Scammed. Ripped off. Thats right, from day 1 in bodybuilding you were decieved. About what though? well here goes... First of all, calories. I saw a thread about a week or two earlier about "excess calories only promote fat", but i cant seem to find it. Anyways i assume it was simmilar to what im about to say. Excess calories are completely unnessesary. What do i mean by excess? im talking about 15 year old high school kids taking in 4000 calories, even 3000 calories. Folks, there is NO freakin way you can eat that many calories and not expect to get fat. -> Now we know it takes 600 calories to build 1 lb of muscle. Ok? Now lets say that within a year, you wanted to build 10 lbs of muscle... most will never achieve this (naturally), but lets just say so cuz 10 makes this example easy. So you would need a total of 600x10lbs = 6000 calories in THAT YEAR! Now to find how many extra calories per day you needed, we divide 6000 / 365 = 16 calories. That means all you needed was 16 extra calories over your maintanance calories to build 10 solid fat free pounds of muscle! BTW the formula for maintanaince is 10*bodyweight + 10,20,or 30% depending on your activity level, for most of us it will be 20%.... anyways, if you figure this out, youll probably be shocked when you see what it is- probably almost half what your eating now... well guess what, thats all you need. Seriously then why are we eating 4000 calories a day? is it any wonder why bodybuilders always get fat during their bulking cycles? and do you honestly believe every single one of those calories will go to building muscle? please!! Now as for the pros, I dont know maybe its ok for them to eat that much as they are on steroids... one of the effects of the increased testosterone is increased apetite, however you can be pretty sure that their body is not using 10000 cals a day to build nothing but muscle. -> As i mentioned in the title, you CAN build muscle and lose fat at the same time? how? just drop out the excess calories your eating now.. think about it- when we cut, what do we do? we drop calories... and boom there goes that fat.. now think about it, if you stick to, hell lets say 25 calories over maintanence, well youd be set.. your gonna be able to build muscle and lose fat at the same time... ok keep in mind this is for normal activities.. you need to eat as neccessary..so if your ognna be running a marathon, obviously you need more than some guy who works on computers all day. And as an added benefit: youll get stronger and faster just like that because intramuscular fat impairs maximal muscle contraction. -> Now then, lets discuss the biggest hype scam in bodybuilding, PROTIEN! You have these bodybuilders, magazines, and "scientists" claiming you NEED 400, 500, or some other outrageous figure of protien per day. Now muscle mass is not made out of 100% protien...i dont have the figure at hand unfortunately, maybe someone else can fill that in, but i think its like 25%??... anyways its also a fact that an adult male's body can only use up to .9 grams of protien per lb of bodyweight.... so all that excess protien is simply pissed out or it turns into extra calories which is turned into fat... thats great isnt it? your litterally pissing money down the toilet. Protien is NOT used for fuel- not to mention it takes a long time for the body to break it down... therefore eating 500 grams of protien is completely useless...even 300 is... personally i think no more than 25% of your cals need to come from protien... now tell me- why is it only bodybuilders eat this insane amount of protien? and WHY?? does spending 1 hour in the gym suddenly magically give a bodybuilder a NEED to eat 400 grams of protien? YOu wanna tell me a track athlete who spends all day running only needs 50 grams of protien per day, and yet a bodybuilder does soo much more work in that 45 minutes he needs like 8 times as much? come on! Think about how much protien 400 grams is- thats 20 HUGE new york strip steaks.... since when is your body able to process that much protien??? and once again, only 45 minutes of work REQUIRES your body to take this much protien? come on! not to be racist, but have you guys ever seen those bushmen in africa? they have pretty big chests and even arms, but i doubt they worry about eating a whole zebra every day? -> Notice who the people are that are advocating eating excessive amounts of protien. Its joe weider, professional bodybuilders with endorsement contracts, bodybuilding stores. These guys ALL stand to gain from protien sales. ANd they are gaining from suckers like you and me. Think about it guys- the protien industry is a BILLION dollar industry- and thats exclusively bought up by the bodybuilding community. I think it goes without saying how all this adds up. Its funny to see how over the years, protien "needs" keep going up. I remember 2 years ago when i was 16, the standard was 35 grams of protien in a shake, and that was all you "needed"... now its 65... another irony considering your body simply cannot process that amount of protien in an hour, probably not even within the day... in 1 shake, your getting as much as most people and athletes get in an entire day.... thats totally ridiculous... STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY PEOPLE....

Interesting read, but my experinece has been wholey contradictory to his opinion. I have tried to bulk on a clean diet and I have tried to bulk eating a bit sloppier. The results were much better when I was looser with my calorie intake. As far as the protein intake goes - I think I will take the lead from guys like Coleman & Cutler when it comes to what it takes to build muscle as opposed to an 18 year old with a theory.
And at the ripe old age of 18 I dont think he's had just a great deal of practical experience to back up that theory.

No shit! I agree with Mojo. I saw a drastic increase when I upped my calories and protien while on cycle. Maybe because of what I'm taking increases protien synthesis...maybe don't really give a shit because it works. Does anybody know anyone that has been on a bulking cycle that has lost fat and had great quality gains with only 25 calories over thier "needed calorie intake"? If so I need to speak with them because that's how I want to bulk up. Last couple of times I tried that though I wasted my money and time. All MO.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say...BULLSHIT. First off, your body can and does utilize more than 35-40 grams of protein every 3 hours....you know how I know this....LUCKY is LIVING proof...not some 18 year old teen with a hunch....and like MOJO said, I have witnessed more growth and strength increases upping calories than going less....I'll let someone else who has been doing this for 20+ years talk now.

OMG sometimes I just wonder what goes on in peoples heads, now I know.......lol.....It sounds to me like he got ripped off on his Protein Powder at GNC (didn't get his 20% within the 1st 10 days of the month) and wants his deep seeded revenge against the Billion $$$ Supplement Industry .....Now I've seen it all.....I could go on for days on this particular subject, but I think we've covered issues such as this one in many past posts....
