Trust is the BIGGEST thing...
And you dont need to know everything.. I dont know everything about AAS, I know enough to answer questions. But I know how to tell you how to eat. Remember ones Knowledge or lack of is not a deciding factor all the time, Yes it helps but is not paramount... bigriggs00, Be nice to have you on the team... |

You said it hunter7.. the title MOD means a lot. I have seen MODs use their titles to get things, such as discounts. Once I saw that, they were gone. Being a MOD is not something to take lightly.
And R~F~G.. TRUST. We can't STRESS this enough. Not only for the other Staff members of the board, but for EVERY member on the board. I'm an Admin and Super MOD on other sites. I'm still learning EVERYDAY. It can be a lot of work, but I enjoy every minute of it. |

Trust, Accountability, Knowledge, leadership, personality, available time and dedication, and did I mention trust.
All these things are very important aspect of being a MOD or what I like to think of as being a leader. If you are asking my opinion, I believe BigRiggs are all the above and would make an outstanding MOD and leader here or elsewhere. Viva la BiggRiggs! |

All the above are important. A mod must assume ownership in a sense. A mod must pour his efforts into the site as if it were his baby. I did this with conversionboard back in the days and took it upon myself to redesign the entire board. Of course, Chaos helped. As mod at Iron Arena, I stepped up and litterly took ownership and went through the pains and costs of moving and totally redeveloping the board from ground up. Again, Redspy assisted me greatly. As mod on Iron Magazine, I stive to support and nature the members in everyway. For all this, I receive only the pleasure of being a good servent. I'd never ask a penny for my efforts. One doesn't give and expect anything in return. I've never even received a donation or had a sponser over the years I've owned, operated and funded Iron Arena. Another important quality for a mod is being able to actually moderate discussions and keep civility and decency.
If you need someone, Bass, I'm here for you. Of course, I'd be more active. As a Sports Nutritionist (B.S. Nutrition & Health), I've tons to offer. I seldom write articles these days for lack of time. |

I am not as active as I once was on the boards, current changes in how the community is watched has some to do with that. And some of my lack of activity is not spending anytime on the net. Good list of requirements, wish all the boards had something like that and didn't promote because of post count, we might not be in the jam we're in if that happened. J.R.

I look at a guy like R~F~G and I see a well rounded mod- I think if people have similar qualities and persona they would fit the bill.
I am allready a lazy, terrible mod on enough boards lol.

Before I went back to school I was much more active in the community. I still try to hit my three or four core boards every day, but its not like a year or two ago when I was hitting 12-15 boards a day. That shit takes up A LOT of time. If I had more time I would have accepted the mod nod at a few places, but I know that I can't dedicate the time that it takes to do it right. I wish that I could. When I first started coming on the boards back in the late nineties I was amazed by the mods. I thought that it would be so awesome to be a mod. Now, I'm like "That sounds like a lot of work" LOL.

IMO you have to be part of the board. Too many guys Mod at like 5 or more different boards. You need people who Mod at maybe 2-3 boards and no more. You can't dedicate your time to a board if you're Modding so many boards. I've seen it a thousand times, they Mod at a bunch of boards but they usually stick to the active ones leaving the slower ones behind. The Mod's that are picked by their rep used to bring in people as well, so they'd pick Mods with a good rep. That's great and all but they usually don't post too much. A board needs Mods that will dedicate their time to the board and not 50 other ones. That is what will make a great board, making the Mods more active and participating in the building and structure of a board which in return draws in members. Just my 2 cents..

It became too easy to become a MOD, for me when I think about "back in the day" I think "old triedia" and the old "Meso"..it was mostly about trust and mods amongst themselves hooked each other up with stuff..whether it was with gear, ancillaries or something one needed like emergency quick..there was also this rapport with the board owner. In essence the mods were the back bone of the board and they knew all the angles..they knew who and appreciated real "active" members, Vets where right up there with the mods too...throwing around free gear to win that trust quickly and/or to have special priviledges became all to frequent. I remember we could ask for anything we needed (amongst ourselves) and more than a few would quickly spring to offer support. Big egos, greed, loose talking ruined it all. We don't need more chiefs, we need more "active" indians.
Well said Sean-very true. Last edited by zodiac : 04-20-2008 at 01:15 PM. |

I dont think that your average member even remotely understands how much work it is behond the scenes to be a good MOD or board leader. So finding the right fit is dificult and can really effect the overall vibe of a board. It is very important that the MODs be active and have a strong presence on the board as this is what truly drives actvity and member retention. Last edited by upondeez : 04-20-2008 at 02:11 PM. |
