i'm gonna have to agree with there being money in private training, but i see some value in some certification programs. there are many theories and principals that should be understood, if not to have the utmost knowledge about the field you are in, then simply to have to bs someone everytime you don't know the technical answer for something. in my opinion some of the cert. programs take alot of the basics and throw it into one book, so it's a little easier to gain access to these principals in the beginning when the health and fitness world seems so expansive. not to discredit other means of gaining this knowledge, as a matter of fact you absolutly need to keep going with education in the field if you wanna be worth the money you charge, but it helps to have a one solid resource to turn to in the beginning. i've been training for 5 years now, and it's a great job. nothing compares to working for yourself. i've done the health club thing, the management thing, and now i just work for myself doing in-home training. lemme know if you have any questions for your friend, i'd be happy to help.
