man this is some good stuff here!! I am stuck going to a YMCA right now, please don't laugh!! the place is new , very big , and actually has nice equipment. the reason I am going here is my 3 yr old daughter goes to a preschool there and involved in a couple other programs. I pay a flat rate for her and it includes the weight room.
here is the good part. NO dropping weights, no grunting, no tank tops, and NO bottles of water are to be with you while you workout. no music is playing and I swear there is this 80 yr old bitch that works the counter and turns you in for anything!! made this hot chick get rid of her closed bottle of water she was carrying! I just looked at her and shook my head!!!
I am hardcore and have always trained at hardcore GYMS!! so I have told my wife I am gone as soon as it is feasible $$. her upity up sister can't understand why I hate it there and I told her she never will either!!! so a little while longer there and I am gonna have some fun and raise a little hell before I go. nothing to bad because of my daughter!! lots of cops as well!!

Where are the powerlifters going to go?

I miss the hanger in Japan.. On base our gym was a small old aircraft hanger...Nothing but old iron in every direction, plates in piles, dumbells in massive numbers, benches and racks everywhere, sweat on the floor, powder in the air, grunting, screaming, cussing, the sweat sound of clanging iron echoing off the metal walls, with the sound of old rock cracking outta crappy speakers.... It was heaven!

My gym is mostly old school, the owner is a Pro powerlifter and a trainer to all kinds of athletes, But the only consession is in the main body of the gym , the music is classic rock and in the back its metal all the time. I heard about a gym he delivers drinks to that has a buzzer that the members can push when theres too much grunting or to much weights dropping so the manager can correct the problem right then.J.R.

I wonder if there are any lawers on this blog that could tell us if our rights have been violated since we are paying customers and there are is nothing in my contract that states I can't grunt or drop weights when my elbows are about to be ripped off my my arms during dumb bell presses!!! Kind of like a membership bill of rights that protects us from management turning into ass holes once they have our money!!

95% of gym members are newbies who never show up but keep their membership active. That is the residual income they are looking for. Sign up and initiation fees etc. Gotta go to a real gym like the one my former powerlifting buddy started. squat racks and 150# dumbells. Most of the chains don't like bodybuilders cause they intimidate new members (fat pussies)

Graybeard69 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I let my membership expire at my old gym and bought as much equipment as I could for my home. It's sufficient but I like training at old school, hard core gyms. I have pretty much what I need but I've got to walk or run outside for cardio, which sucks in the winter.

i train at a really hard core in my hometown. I have to drive 20 min but better then going to the la fitness 3 min from my house lol. the owner of this gym has been arrested like 10 times for selling juice.

Its really hard core, has dbs up to 200lbs, 100lbs plates, chains, boxes etc. most of the equipment is getting older but i love it. Even has a donkey calf raise machine, an old natalus pullover machine, and he even took a bar and cut off the weight part of it on one in and put in on a hinge and lag bolted it to the floor for t-bar rows. never see that anymore. I love it.

What happened to the gyms? Part Two!!!!

Ok, fellas here is a new one for you! Tonight I was hitting 430 on my bench press for the first time (Its been a process for me just getting to this weight guys so dont bust my balls to bad) and the night time cleaning kid is sweeping the floor around me, which I was cool with until he hit my shoe with the broom when I just lowered the bar to my chest!! I thought the kid was fucking with me until I finished the lift and looked at his face at which time he tells me to step out of his way for a second so he can finish up!! I had to walk away so I would not feed into the meat head stereo type and beat the living shit out of the little guy!! Since I am on probation for dropping the 130 pound dumb bells I decided to vent my frustration here, sorry guys!!!!

My gym thankfully has 5 powerracks with olympic lifting platforms. Most of the machines I am not pleased with. We do have DBs that at least go up to 100.

I have been working out at my old college for the last few months. You would think a top 25 ranked football team would have a better gym. There are three different types of dumb bells that only go to 100. Some DB's are missing for each of the three sets. Their is only one squat rack. Two old school benches and the rest are hammer strength machines. The worst part is that there are not that many 45lbs plates. I have to spend have my workout walking around the gym just to find enough plates to work out with.

Muscular Development did a big artical on this and gave names of real gym not all these stupid fitness centers. There are less and less hardcore gyms these days.
