Smoking bans
This being a website devoted to the individuals body, I imagine the answers most of you will give already... but my city is one of the many considering a smoking ban in all public places. What are your thoughts? As a person who believes strongly in personal freedoms, its difficult for me to support a ban on anything, but I refuse to be around anyone who smokes or go to a hick bar with no ventilation because I cant stand it. Ben Franklin said, "The country that gives up freedom in exchange for security deserves neither." (Maybe that doesnt apply to well to this, but I hate that Bush has managed to put a clamp on so many constitutional freedoms.)

The ban is actually pretty cool in my opinion. It started over here last year and makes it alot more enjoyable when working in a nightclub. Or if you just want to go out and shoot a game of pool or something. You don't get all smoked out. You can actually come home from a bar and not smell like an ash tray.
Besides, the smokers aren't really giving up any freedoms. They can still smoke. Just not inside a building around a bunch of people who may not want to breath that stuff. It just forces them to be a little more curtious with it. Depending on how you look at it, it actually adds a freedom to a city. The smokers can still smoke, so they keep their right to it. But now the none smokers get the right to go out to a night club or where ever and not have to worry about second hand smoke or cancer or anything.

The government can't control it enough so they won't make it legal anytime soon.
Look at the proabition (sp?). They made drinking illigal back in the day and then when they brought it back they taxed the hell out of it and controled all the liquer stores. If they feel like they can control it and make money off of it then they will clear it. If they can't get their little piece of the pie then nobody is allowed to have it. Don't get me wrong. I love my country and back my government on most things. But there are a few things that the boys in DC need to improve on.

I think that a ban sux. They wanna control your life and then make money on the shit too. I don't smoke but believe that the second hand smoke theory is just that a theory. The Government makes a ton of bucks on tobacco and booze but they want them to be responsible for us using it and people sueing cuz they used it. What a bunch of shit. I'd rather have a smoker behind the wheel of a car then a drinker. I could go on for days on this but won't. Remember if you let them ban something for someone else its only a matter of time before they ban what you want/like also. J.R.
