Everyday Signs that Obesity Rates Are Increasing
From: CSPI www.cspinet.org Because of safety concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration has instructed he airlines to add ten (10) pounds to approved passenger weights. When administering vaccines and drawing blood, doctors now need longer needles to penetrate thicker layers of fat on American bodies. Almost 25% of women in their 50's are too large to have their body-fat measured with a traditional skinfold caliper. Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure in the U.S. - increasing 118% between 1997 and 2000. Over the last decade, diabetes rates rose 60% in the U.S. (over half of diabetes cases are due to overweight, poor diet and physical inactivity.) Today's size 10 was sold as a women's size 14 in the 1940's. The Gap, Limited Too and Target are selling plus-sized clothes for youth. Plus-sized boutique Lane Bryant is expected to increase its number of stores from 650 to 1,000 over the next five years. Catherine's Plus Sizes is projected to increase from 470 to 700 stores. The plus-size clothing market generates $23 billion in sales each year, accounting for a quarter of women's clothing sales. Nike changed the size scale for it's women's fitness apparel. A small sports bra used to fit a woman with a 33-inch to 35-inch bust. Now it fits a 35- to 37-inch bust. One of the reasons the Boston Red Sox decided to rebuild the legendary Fenway Park was that the seats were too narrow for today's baseball fans. The seats in the new ballpark are 4 inches wider. |

Wow, this shit is getting ridiculous, so instead of having people feel bad for being overweight and encourage them to get fit and healthy, we are now camoflauging it with bigger seats and different sizes! WTF!

I'm 38 and I can't imagine giving up now. I figure what I do now as far as diet, muscle development and general health is what's gonna carry me through the rest of my life. I've read and know that if you've got more muscle mass your less likely to have back problems, arthritis, breaking a hip, the list goes on and on. The other day I saw a man about 70 I thought and he was huge I mean like 6'0 250# or more. I had to go up and talk to him, come to find out he started working out back in the Atlas days and just never quit, said he had a few problems with his knees as he did squat competitions back in the day but other than that he still works out and come to find out he was 83 years old, i couldn't believe it. Told me to never give up no matter what the damn system, meaning doctors tell you...He was definately an inspiration to me. First BB'r I've met at that age that still had great muscle tone. Few wrinkles but hell what can the man do he's 83...heh..Thought you all might be interested in hearing this..Guess the moral is, keep on keeping on and don't look back. Crucially Serene ![]() |

Shit I am looking at 31 years old in a few months, an my H.S reunion was pathetic.
Guys and girls both my age now, look like they could be in their 40's. Fat, pot bellies, balding or no hair, wrinkles, you name it... they look like their falling apart. But yet I hear everyday I look like i'm MAYBE 20-21 years old. Hell I get carded for dip, and alcohol when I decide to drink. And several times i'mnot sold to, being accused of having a fake I.D. |

I'll admit. I was a fat kid. I was 140 at age 13. My dad saw that this was becoming ridiculou, so he made me run every day, with him chasing after me. I told him he needed to stop this, cuz i was embarassed, so he in turn made me run at night or early in the morning. He was in the polish military, which is no joke when it comes to physical training. Changed my diet and everything. Needless to say, it had a large effect on me. At age 16, he bought me a years membership to the gym, and since then it has never been the same. Moral of the story, the parents are to blame. I ate like shit, looked like shit, cuz my parents didnt give a shit. Finally, they began to see this was becoming a problem, so they took away my sega, stopped buying shitty food, and helped me get my ass in shape.
