Need some help here. I was always the beanpole. Started with weights 10 years ago at16. Was 5'10" 125lbs. I have tried for years to put on weight, and have succeeded somewhat, I'm now 190. The problem is that although I've of course put on some muscle, I'm at 19% bodyfat, all in my stomach. I still look too skinny for my taste everwhere else, and I need to eat like a pig just to keep the precious amount of muscle tissue I've gained. I train smart and consistent and eat fairly clean. Cardio and thermos make me lose muscle. How do I gain muscle tissue AND lose the gut? I'm also a baseball player and practice begins in a few months. I need to stay lean to cover centerfield, but also the strength and size to hit with some power. Is there any natural way to lose the belly and keep the bodyweight above say 180? Am I just a victim of bad genetics(my parents are both small-framed) and fucked forever?

WHAT DOES YOUR DIET LOOK LIKE??? DO YOU EAT SMALL FREQUENT MEALS OR 2 OR 3 HUGE MEALS??? DO YOU EAT ALOT OF CARBS??? WHAT DOES YOUR PROTEIN INTAKE LOOK LIKE?? DO YOU DO CARDIO??? GIVE US SOME ANSWERS TO THESE ?'S AND I THINK WE MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU BRO!!

I eat 3 solid meals a day, making sure I get 30+ grams of protein with each, and have a scoop of Nytro Whey(22g,WPI)in h2o 4x a day. I don't count carbs but would say my overall intake is moderate, and I've cut back on the sugar, sticking with oatmeal, rice, and veggies. I walk 30 minutes 3x a week at a brisk pace. I've always been able to shed the winter fat once the weather turns nice-running around with baseball and doing sprint workouts. This didn't happen last season for the first time, and I was told spinting doesn't really burn fat, especially as we age, because its anerobic. Those should answer your ?'s, thanx for the reply and I appreciate any help.

Sprinting doesn't result in fat loss? Where did you hear that? If anything it should shed fat way quicker than traditional jogging if done correctly. Ever hear of something EAS calls "guerrilla cardio" I've read up on it and have tried it with results. What it consists of is a 12 minute total workout. Go to your local track and do a 4 min. warm-up jog at 50% of your endurance level, then for the next 4 mins. sprint for 20 secs. then slow down to a jog for 10 secs. then back up to 20 sec. sprinting then 10 secs. of jogging. repeat pattern for a total of 4 min. then for the last 4 min. jog at 50% again for a cool down. do this on an empty stomach in the morning and it should work. it can also be done on a stationary bike. as far as your diet goes as long as you stick with 6 small meals a day, evenly spaced w/ moderate carbs and high protein you shouldn't sacrifice size and strength. keep lifting too and that belly will be gone before you know it.

THE GUERILLA CARDIO ROBYN MENTIONED DOES KICK ASS!!! GIVE IT A TRY, IT WORKS! EVERYTHING ELSE SOUNDS GOOD. I'M NOT SURE WHY YOU HAVE ACCUMULATED SO MUCH FATTY TISSUE BRO. HOW HARD DO YOU TRAIN AND HOW OFTEN?? PERHAPS YOU SHOULD STEP IT UP ANOTHER NOTCH BRO!!

sometimes problem areas such as the mid section,love handles inability to reduce is estrogenic in nature.

i think it may be genetic too, my old man has a pot belly but is in shape everwhere else, i have a hell of a time keeping my spare tire down. remember in just about all males the belly is the first place you gain fat and its the last place it sheds off. that sucks

Robyn, first of all thanx for the advice. I do the EAS workout 2x a week and a 30 minute walk/jog combo on the treadmill 2x a week. I gave in and started taking 2-3 caps of Xenedrine too because the times tickin for me to get lean(practice starts in 5 wks). I am happy to say that the fat is coming off. I've lost a bit of muscle, but not too much and my strength is still there. When I start feeling sad that I've lost a little size in my chest and arms, the girls who like touching my emerging developing abs make me feel better! Again, thank you, your the best!

Hey anytime! Just happpy to help, but we gotta do something to stop you from losing the lean mass, perhaps supplementing with some more protein and trying some l-glutamine. I've always heard that cardio and lifting for size never go hand in hand because of its counterproductivity. Wow big word huh! But I can't give up the cardio, I'm afraid of getting fat again. I take Xenadrine too cuz I eat a lot to help me get bigger.
