Thanks, but I did that ten times and it keeps coming back as read-only.

2 the program that the file belongs to ie: word, pdf etc was meant to be read-only so you cannot change the file or print it. Some pdf files, are read-only and as stated you can only read them and not make changes or even print!
There maybe programs that will override exsisting properties so you can modify said files... I did a search for my own personal problem that was the same, I had to get a pdf changed from r-o.

1. I'd hate to think that it has a virus, my anti-virus is pretty good (NOD32).
2. I agree, some have security measures that prohibit certain functions.
