As bodybuilders we are always looking to improve our body whether by training or proper nutrition. Taking every necessary step to give us that extra edge is what propels our physique to the next level. This is why supplements have become a must of every serious body builder’s diet. Once plateaus are reached supplements give you that extra edge to move onward to accomplish your next goal.
As many of you know one of the cheapest but most beneficial supplements in today’s market is an amino acid called L-Glutamine. This item has become popular among athletes of many ages and sports.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid found in our body. Glutamine can be found in many meats and dairy products (milk), and consists of over half of the free amino acids in our muscles. But through serious weight lifting or other intense exercise Glutamine can be depleted up to 50%.
If you train 3 or more times a week there is a good chance that your body does not have the opportunity to replenish its Glutamine levels on a regular basis. This is considered overtraining and can lead to muscle deterioration.

The proper amounts of Glutamine taken per day will vary on the individual ranging from 5-20 grams a day. Taking several doses per day particularly during or after your workout and before going to bed will give you the most beneficial results.
